To insure a great day shooting, you need to make sure you have all the right equipment. Many a day shooting has been ruined for lack of the correct screwdriver or ammunition. Here are some of the more important items you should consider bringing to your shooting session.
- Safety Glasses – Never shoot without eye protection
- Hearing Protection – Never shoot without hearing protection. Even a single shot can damage your hearing.
- Clothing – Wear clothing appropriate for the weather with a closed neck shirt and a hat to prevent hot brass from hitting your face or going down your neckline. Comfortable closed toe shoes should be worn, no sandals or flip-flops.
- Firearm(s) – Make sure you have the firearms you plan on shooting and they are in working order before you leave for the range.
- Ammunition – Make sure the ammunition is correct for the firearms you will be using and you have enough. It is no fun to run out.
- Magazines – Multiple magazines for your firearm will make shooting easier, by limiting the time you need to spend reloading.
- Hand Wipes – to clean hazardous residue including lead from hands and face after shooting.
- Targets – Make sure you have the correct one and a sufficient number of targets for your planned shooting session.
- Stapler and/or tape – Used to attach your targets to the target stands.
- Gun Cleaning Kit – Dropped guns can become fouled and need to be cleaned before shooting. Cleaning can also help with action problems and accuracy.
- Pen/Pencil/Marker – Used to document your targets.
- Bottled water – Stay hydrated to maximize performance and enjoyment.
- Snacks – Keep your energy and focus during and after shooting by having snack available.
- Simple gun tools (Screw drivers, etc.) – Used to fix loose screws, or adjust sights as needed.
