It something that happens to everyone as they age. For my father, I notice it when he passed his 45th birthday. An avid reader, he suddenly needed reading glasses to enjoy his latest John D MacDonald novel. For shooters it is not only the words on a page that start to blur, but also the front sight on the gun. Correct sighting technique requires focusing on the front sight and letting the back sight and target be out of focus. Once the front sight starts to blur as well, precision shooting becomes difficult.
There is no simple solution. Wearing reading glasses does not work well as distance vision is affected. While bifocals allow both close and distance vision, they do not work well for shooting as shooters gaze on the front sight is typically from top of their vision and not the bottom as provided by bifocals. In addition, shooters need the ability to change their focus from the target to the front sight and back again. The good news is that there is a solution to this problem.
SSP Eyewear has a solution for shooters. Their top focal shooting glasses are like bifocals except the magnifying portion of the glasses is on the top of the lenses and not the bottom. This arrangement allows a shooter to focus on the front sight while holding the gun in a normal shooting stance. Even better by placing a top focal lens on the dominant eye side, but a regular lens on the other side shooters are able to view both the distant target and their front sight.
SSP Top Focals are available in magnification from 1.00 to 3.00. Check out SSP Eyewear’s Top Focal glasses if you need find yourself reaching for the reading glasses.
